Compared to the stock Prima Luna tubes these Tung-Sol 12AX7s make my Prima Luna Evo100 Integrated sound more like a solid state amp. Gone is some of that tubey warm midrange with it's large airy sound stage but the tweeters and the woofers are now working overtime. No more rolled off highs and lows. The sound is crystal clear and makes acoustic instruments sound great but I find that the singers are pushed back in the sound stage. Actually I had no idea that my Wharfedale Linton speakers could even make those detailed tweeter sounds. Surprising. Anyway if that's what you are looking for then you might really love these Tung-Sol 12AX7s. Personally I wanted some of the tubey sound stage back so I got the Gold Lion 12AX7s and they seem to be a good compromise. I always felt the original Prima Luna tubes didn't represent pianos well enough because of their rolled off highs and lows but their sound stage for voices was indescribably fantastic. For me the Tung-Sols went too far in the other direction but still I enjoyed listening to them.

They are unusable. Coarse and grainy with too much treble. I put back my jj tubes as I can’t listen to the tungsol tubes.

Before I could hook up my 1972 Sansui p for the summer, my X asked if she could have it and a pair of 1972 AR speakers. When she was preview the classic equipment we were doing comparisons between it and a newer Cayin amp and my new ZU Omens. The old system had much clearer highs. I’m almost deaf in my right ear and cannot use a hearing aid. Those highs are needed. I ordered a pair of Tung-Sol 12ax7s. The improvement over the stock Cayin tubes was clear. The highs are not clear and defined yet not intrusive. I am planning to replace the EL34 tubes (the old ones are four years old) with the Tung-Sol reissues. I’ll pay a premium by working with Ken, but everything about this company inspires confidence.

Excellent tubes, very quiet, well balanced and extended, presents a good image in my phono preamp, a George Kaye-modified NYAL Superit. The third tube is a Tung-Sol 12AU7 / Platinum Grade / No Cryo.
