“The KT150 in my Audio Research Ref 250 are a great imporovement. My Ref 250s originally came with KT120s. It is easy to understand why Audio Research switched to KT150 after they became available. Sonically, the KT150 is an improvement top to bottom. The biggest improvement is that the middle frequency is just more natural. With the KT120 there is a more forward "presence region" in the upper mid range. It is not that it sounded bad at all, but now it is more neutral and natural. The rest of the sound is a slight improvement also. The bass is a slight improvement being a bit more solid and better defined. The rest of the overall sound has a slight improvement with better inner detail without any unnatural "etching" of the sound. I had waited until I had more hours on my original KT120s. I can't say the REF 250s sounded bad before as they were clearly the best power amps I've owned. But, the improvement is well worth the cost of upgrading to KT150s. I appreciate the good service from Upscale Audio.”

“Had these in for some time now in a Dialogue Premium HP. I wasn't really impressed until lengthy time had passed to give these time to break in. In fact, I bought an octet last year that I ended up moving along after several weeks to go back to the sweet EL34 sound. I realize now with this second set that I did not allow them ample time to settle. More than impressed and happy with the added dynamics. Be patient!”

“Bought 8 Kt150's for my Primaluna Dialogue HP Premium Power Amp to replace the stock EL-34's. I am using it with a Dialogue Premium pre-amp to power Harbeth Super HL5+'s, which (at 86db sensitivity) are not very efficient speakers . The sound with the EL-34's was very good -- warm, lush sound and excellent mid-range -- but it seemed a bit lacking in dynamics. After reading some of the reviews below, I decided to upgrade the power tubes to the KT-150's. The difference was immediately evident, and huge. After plugging in the KT-150's, without any warmup or break-in, the sound was instantly transformed. The soundstage was much wider and imaging more precise. The additional power provided the dynamic punch, particularly in the low-end, that had previously been missing. With the KT-150's, The mid-range does not have quite the same warmth as with the EL-34's, but it has been replaced with a liquid smoothness that even more appealing. And the pairing of the KT-150's in the Dialogue HP with the Harbeths is a magical combination. This is not a cheap upgrade, but it is not a tweak. I found it to be closer to a full component upgrade.”
