Belstaff Crosby Soy Wax Jacket - British Racing Green Reviews

4 Rating 2 Reviews
Read Urban Rider Reviews

As a lighter alternative to the heavy Tourist Trophy Trialmaster, Belstaff launched the Crosby jacket. The Crosby has the same classic style that makes the Tourist Trophy such an iconic jacket. The 6oz cotton outer layer is treated with a wax derived from the oils of soya beans, which gives the jacket its gorgeous weathered look. The Soy Wax Crosby jackets are fitted with a seam-sealed miporex membrane which makes them fully waterproof. There’s removable D3O armour on the shoulders and elbows and a pocket for back-armour to be fitted. See the video review on this page for a more detailed look. Soy waxed cotton 6oz Seam-sealed miporex waterproof membrane Removable D3O armour on shoulders and elbows Pocket for back protector Cotton check lining Metal breathers under arm Adjustable neck strap Corduroy lining on the inside of collar and cuffs Four front pockets closed by flaps and snap buttons The lower snap buttons are not rubberised as stated in the video

Let me first say, this is a GORGEOUS jacket, that is beautifully constructed, and has a wonderful weight to it. It's fitted perfectly to the body, and can be adjusted to fit any body type. BUT. Belstaff's new soy wax finish is not for everyone, especially if you have a sensitive nose: it has a funky odor to it. I would describe it as the aroma of having recently eaten a big Asian meal...there's just a soy aroma that follows you around when you wear it. I let it air out for a couple of weeks, and there was modest improvement. But the odor is going to be there, just keep that in mind! Now, I will say, just from personal experience that there will be people who won't care about the smell. You might not even notice it! So if you love the look of the jacket, just consider whether or not you'd say you have a sensitive nose...if the answer is no, buy it at your earliest convenience! If the answer is yes...buy it anyways, but be prepared to return it. In the end, I applaud Belstaff for trying something new, but wish that they'd found a way to dilute the finish so that it doesn't carry such a potent soy odor.
