In the course of the 18th Century the fragrance became increasingly popular and some years later a Cologne merchant, Wilhelm Mulhens, secured the rights to the Farina family name and began manufacturing his own version of the fragrance.The residence, 4711 Glockengasse, was given to the House of Mulhens during the occupation of Cologne in 1796 and the number 4711 thereafter characterised Eau de Cologneand became the new name for the product.4711 Original Eau de Cologne was formulated in 1792 from the essential oils of select citrus fruits and small quantities of Rosemary and Lavender. This creme soap revitalises skin leaving it cool, dew-fresh and silky.
