“I could have been unlucky but these tiles were terrible and I would strongly advise for them to not be used indoors. Yes, they are real slate and I wanted that uneven country-style look, but most of the tiles were actually dangerous as just running your hand over the surface caused very sharp splinters to flake off. Some of them looked like someone had taken an axe to them and there were very sharp grooves in the surface. Our builders said that even with several coats of sealant they would not be fit for use. You could NOT walk on them in bare foot and I'm sure they would have shredded my dogs paws..
On a good note, when I called the company they asked for a couple of pics to be emailed over and after that arranged collection and a refund ever so quickly. They were fab to deal with and showed excellent customer service.”
Hi Vicki
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.
These natural slate tiles can be very rustic, especially with slate being a layered stone, they can sometimes flake. The sealant itself wouldn't make them any smoother, but the flaking areas can be brushed off to create a smoother surface, however, we understand that they are not suitable for everyone depending on your household.
We have some slate effect tiles if you are looking for something a little less rustic if that would help.
Kind Regards

“Nice looking tile and appears to be the perfect colour, but I was hoping to get 300 x 600mm tiles and these are in mixed sizes. Will bear them in mind, if I can’t find the right colour in the size I want.”
“The sample tile was very beautiful but being genuine slate we were not sure of the practicalities as a floor material given its tendancy to shed layers like an onion.”
“I ordered a tile sample to decide whether this is the right floor for our kitchen. Sadly the sample was tiny and didn't really help as was a rather rough offcut with a flaky, sharp surface which didn't bear much resemblance to the smooth finish shown in the website pictures. It has left me in a quandary as I love the example pics but am reluctant to spend £500 on something that might not look like that in reality. Buying a full tile might be the only way forward but as they are very large its rather wasteful so I might end up just going somewhere else not online.”
