Finally a mechanical disc brake for mountain bikes and fat bikes that offers superior performance and is a snap to set up. The Spyke is a dual sided mechanical where both pads actuate providing even and precise clamping force. This translates into even pad wear and, with the addition of a simple cable barrel adjuster, the pads can be adjusted easily and hassle free. No frustration at completely adjusting the whole caliper, only to have it continue to drag the fixed side, adding wear! All of this in a 169g package that works with any of the linear pull levers on the market. Available with 160mm or 180mm rotor and includes all mounting hardware, rotor, and adapters. - Dual sided actuation - Even pad wear - Easy adjustment and set up - Works with ALL linear pull levers - TRP's own ultra-grippy semi-metallic pad that is Shimano M525/M515 compatible allowing for further customization - Compound works well in dry conditions but may wear quickly in wet/muddy conditions - Available in sand blasted matte black - All mounting hardware, rotor, and adapters included - 160 versions include our L3 (160R/180F) IS to PM adapter - 180 versions include both L3 (160R/180F) and A11 180 PM adapters

These brakes are about the most expensive cable disks you can buy, so having finally taken the plunge I was relieved to find that they are worth the money. Pleasingly well made and simple to fit and set-up, most importantly of all they provide much more consistent and easily-modulated braking than the old Shimano cable disks my bike came with. They are also a bit more powerful but the main advantage is the lightness and consistency of operation and the absence of snatching or grabbing. The twin piston caliper is simple to adjust and doesn't rely on bending the disk to force it into contact with the fixed pad, unlike most other cable operated calipers. Much better design and quieter too. You do still have to manually adjust the pads occasionally with an allen key to take up wear, but if you want to be rid of that small chore you will have to go hydraulic. (The reason I did not is that my bike is a folder - Airnimal - and hydraulic lines apparently don't like being repeatedly folded in half). One thing I didn't know until I asked TRP directly is the difference between the Spyke and the better-known Spyre. They are basically the same design but the Spyre is designed to work with short-pull road levers while the Spyke is for longer pull V brake levers. So there you are! In summary: probably the best non-hydraulic disk brakes you can get but with a price tag to match.

Great mechanical disc set up, good build quality with lovely little pad cap, keeps mud an dirt off pads hopefully prolonging pad life. Behaves very much like a hydraulic brake without the hassle of bleeding etc, very easy to set up an like the idea shimano pads fit. Was running BB7's previously, no brainer swap, very happy with stopping power an they look good too!!
