Essentially it acts as a barrier, reducing a fire’s ability to spread for a time. The fact is that this GU10 fixed downlight requires a 65mm hole to be made in the ceiling into which it will be installed, compromises the ceiling’s integrity, and reduces its fire retardant ability. This is where its fire-rated feature comes in. It redresses the instability caused by the cutting, and will give the building’s occupants an extra 90 minutes of protection in the event of a fire. Therefore, despite the very small extra cost of fire-rated products, it’s wise to have them installed, and they’ll give you that all-important extra peace of mind too! Compatibility Matters! IP (Ingress Protection) ratings sound complicated, but they’re actually very simple. The first digit refers to the light’s protection against foreign bodies such as dust and the latter relates to the light’s level of water resistance. This GU10 downlight has an IP20 rating, which means it’s compatible only with dry areas, however, we also have IP65 rated models which are completely dust tight and will withstand low-pressure jets of water from any direction.
