I purchased the Kami to replace my "traditional" martial arts shoes. As a Tai Chi instructor, I appreciate having a pair of thin and flexible shoes that I can wear just in the studio for class. Feeling the ground is really important, and these shoes allow your to do that. I've always used traditional Kung Fu/martial arts shoes in the past (both cotton-soled and rubber-soled), and while they are better than "traditional" sneakers, they all tend to run narrow and do not have an anatomically-shaped toe box. Since I love my Cahor Taupe shoes for casual wear, I decided on the Kami Black for Tai Chi. They are comfortable, flexible, zero-drop, and they fit an actual human foot. I love that they have enough traction that I don't have to worry about slipping, but I can still slide my foot easily for moves that require it. The Washi material is really breathable. This is also my first experience with the Washi paper, and I am impressed by how comfortable and durable it is, as well. I definitely won't hesitate to purchase another pair of these whenever they need replacement (which I suspect won't be for a few years) or any other model that uses the Washi material, either.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Kami, Brian! How lovely to hear that they've become such loved companions for your Tai Chi practice and that they allow you to move so effortlessly. Have many more fun moments and adventures in them 🦊! Warm wishes from the Wildling Team Janina

I love my new shoes the same as the Tanukis they're replacing. After a few weeks they feel completely natural and I don't get an urge to jump out of my shoes at the end of the day (unless they're soaking wet). They're less secure for movement than laced versions, and I think that's great because the elastic never bothers me; the tension is just enough to keep them on and in place whether I'm working, hiking, or playing with our dogs. There is the occasional slip-out if I trip, or they get caught on something or stepped on. I'm confident I could purchase any wildling shoe and it would feel "just right" too. In the past I I've been able to wear their shoes until they're too damaged to fix, and they would never cause my feet to hurt - I think it has something to do with the materials (or exclusion of materials) used in construction of the soles. They don't get hard with age and use, they just wear down like they're supposed to. If you like the design of the Kami, feel free to get a pair, it's a wonderful shoe.
