I bought this because I have trouble honing my 1/8 inch Narex chisel, and this guide said it would accommodate this narrow chisel. It does not hold the chisel in question. In fairness the chisel has a square edge rather than a bevel edge, and this seems to be the reason it will not clamp securely. I any event this honing guide does not fit my particular needs. I have returned it, and have ordered a admittedly more expensive honing guide from Richard Kell which I believe will better serve my needs.

Understand this is an inexpensive honing guide. Yes it has its drawbacks. It is not the easiest to set up. That said, I sharpened my chisels to the point I was able to shave the hair on my arms within minutes of opening the package. Paid 8.99 for it. I will gladly take a little time setting it up for the price, knowing it is a bargain.

As with anything requiring skill, this guide works great for plane blades if you take the time to master it. Or you can ditch the hand plane and just orbital sand your way to flat.

I bought this at a Woodcraft store in Cleveland, Ohio. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing because it is almost unusable for chisels.

I definitely should have read the reviews before buying this because it does not hold the chisels in place right for thicker chisels, I’m not sure if a more expensive chisel would seat better or not.

It holds a plane's iron well for sharpening, however the jaws for holding chisels only work well for thiner blade chisels. If your chisels have a wider blade (Stanley is an example the jaws of the jig will not hold the chisel square or at the proper angle for sharpening. Last but not least the rolling wheel is too small to keep the jig stable while sharpening if you don't pay close attention. Look elsewhere if you need something that fits most chisels or need accuracy.

The grooves for chisels are not designed for chisels that don't have significant bevels on the sides, or are thicker. It will not grip the chisel positively, because the chisel will not fit into the undersized groove. I can likely machine the grooves to a larger dimension, but since one side is curved, that will be difficult. I received this guide as a gift; otherwise, I would return it.

Works wonders on the wider chisels, but the alignment grooves are a bit small until the chisel is smaller than 1/2â€
