I've made several pen kits already and this is the only one that requires a brass tenon. This isn't like the other pen kits so it's important to read the instructions before starting.

1. I too don’t like the exposed “Body finial” when capped - just looks unfinished. 2. What was the plug pump for? The ink cartridge works fine, but I don’t understand what the pump was for. Creating the tenon for the band to fit onto was silly (insert better swear word here). Looks like it is back to PSI if I want a fountain pen.

What an ugly design. The plastic body finial is cheap looking and inelegant, making the end of the body of the pen seem unfinished. The contrast between the center band and whatever cheaper alloy the "threaded body connectors" are made of is obvious. Do a complete re-design, it's not worth the price as it is now.

Fit on the tenon piece is extremely poor, 1 had one kit that went together nicely, 1 that was marginal (even with a drop of CA, the piece was larger than the tube), and 1 that required a vise to force the darn thing over the tube (note: that pen is now extremely tight as I think the tube collapsed a bit. And don't get me started about the top of the cap and the issues with trying to get that ABS (with metal wrapped under the ABS) threaded top piece to actually screw in (force was required on all 3 pens). Despite all that, the one that went together fairly well is my daily pen now. But the frustration over pieces that only fit marginally at best make this a pen I could not recommend. If I make another of these, I'll need blood pressure medication.

I bought this pen 18 months ago at the store in Austin for my wife (she wanted it). I was new to woodturning and wasn't sure about the tendon part. Found it in my desk last week and decided to make it for her. It was much easier to make than I thought it would be. I used cocobolo and it came out beautiful. I have read the other reviews and see where there might be a problem with assembly but I didn't have any. I laid all the parts out per instructions, made sure tubes were clear and assembled. Only negative is the blue ink but will buy a black refill. Have never had a fountain pen, so not sure about the refillable part. The only other slight negative is the bushings...how many people can tell difference between .447 bushing and .444 bushing (so close it isn't even funny..lol). Worth the money...wife loves the pen. Will make more to sell. I usually sell bullet pens for a good profit, this item will compliment them well.
