Ok...not as bad as my first review. Since I had this vise bolted to my bench, I needed to put an item in a vice for a small thing I needed done. So, I find out that when you tighten the vise, that also tightens the swivel piece to the base and the vise doesn't move. However, If you're only using one hand to crank in\out the vise jaws, the vise will pivot on the base making a quick screw in\out not so quick....and at times annoying. Dave

Save your money. This is a piece of junk. The screw to secure the vise from spinning on the mount must be tightened from underneath. Difficult to get at. Then the pressure from this same screw to prevent the vise from spinning also pushes up against the main vice frame cause it to be unable to open and close the vise. But a good vice. Not this one.

This is now my go-to vise. It operates smoothly and it’s easy to position the work. I mounted it on the corner of my heavy work bench with lag screws, so I can access the work piece from many angles. It’s well made and well designed: the screw action is smooth and there is little wobble or play. I would buy another one if I could find a larger size.

3 months or there abouts, clutch crumbled, cheap casting, does not hold, garbage, for the price it is disgusting!!! 3 emails to customer service, no response!!! I see now that this a way too common problem. There should be parts avaiable and it should be 29.95 and even that maybe over priced. Why sell such garbage! This is the second time a Woodriver product failed.

Had it a few months, used it for a few things, today used it and it broke. Was tightening it up and heard a crunch sound. The clutch crumbled, on examining it , pure pot metal. Should have known. Bought a Woodrirver vice once before, several years ago, it broke while I was installing it on the bench. Was able to take it back. I bought this one on sale for half off, not worth even that and for 80 dollars are you kidding.

I bought one of these vises to straighten nodes when building bamboo fly rods. A casting broke on it after a few uses, rendering it useless. Because I had used one without any problems in a fly rod building class, I thought maybe it was just a fluke. So I bought another one. The same casting broke the first time I used it.

I have bolted this vise to a thick base of plywood, and clamp it to my workbench when I need an extra vise. I made a couple of wooden inserts so that I can clamp wood items without marring the wood. For moderate to light-duty this is a fine vise, especially for those with limited space. As noted above, bolting it to a firm base lets you clamp this base to your work table, then put the assembly out of the way when you don't need it. I don't use the reversible feature too often, but when I do, it is a handy (and unique) vise feature. It is as solid as the day I bought it (4 years ago).
