I purchased the vice 7 years ago and have yet to find a way to eliminate the racking without using shims. I would call this poor QC or product design. This product is not worth the money. I have an old orange Pony vice that is square to the bench top, so this one should be just as accurate without using shims etc. Don’t waste your money on this vise, you’ll be frustrated in the end. The reason I gave the vice a 2 is because it has not broken yet.

Finally have a shop and built my first real bench. This was a perfect addition to my build! Only issue is my own fault from not ordering the quick release. I meant to but didn't pay close enough attention. Used it anyway and works perfectly and quite easy to set up!

I have a solid top bench I mounted this to. I have mounted and tried this vice several times thinking I am doing something wrong. As you tighten vice it will hold almost nothing tightly due to racking. If you place equal thickness shims or packing in various places to stop racking then you can tighten something in the vice. Who keeps enough shine to fit every possible thickness you might try and use? Casting is very rough, not well finished. Lots of lash in the threads. Disappointing for the price paid - junk low quality fit and finish - might as well buy HF item.

I've installed this on a bench I'm currently building. The bench top is a solid 4", with a 1" 3/4 x 8" hard maple apron (in other words, the bench itself is rock solid). This vise is not rigid enough to hold boards securely. The jaw will rack both horizontally and vertically, meaning that only a single edge of the jaw face is ever in contact with the board. This results in very poor holding. As an example; when cutting dovetails the end of the board will vibrate even if the piece is only 3 inches from the top of the jaw face. For the price, this is a very low quality vise and I would not recommend it at all.

Vise looks OK but I haven't been able to find a hole template or fastener recommendations anywhere on line. It's one thing not including the fasteners but not providing a simple sketch of the hole layout is very disappointing.
