In the image of the product the middle piece that attaches the screw to the metal 'box' is located on the far side of the vise. In the installation instructions it shows the real way it should be setup with the middle piece attaching on the closer side to the rotating handle.

I used this for tail vise on Woodcraft's Lynch Classic Workbench, as instructed by Matthew Teague. It works well, but has taken some adjustments, as the large side plate had a 1/8" variation in width from front to back, as well as rough edges, both requiring some grinding with my edge sander. Constructing the wooden structure covering the worm screw was tedious, but doable. I now have a smooth functioning tail vise.

The vise works great so far. I agree the instructions or installation ideas could be better. Here is my approach with a diagram if it helps anyone. https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/mfgsos/building_a_workbench_with_wood_river_end_vise/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

So far I am pleased with the operations but there could definitely benefit for improved installation guidance. I have attached details on my installation and hopefully others will find it helpful. https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/mfgsos/building_a_workbench_with_wood_river_end_vise/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I am pleased to have used this vise. It performs well and was very reasonably priced. Directions were vague. Takes a bit to figure out but in the end well worth it.

Just bought this and not sure where to start. Directions are very poor. No measurements or cut sheet available. It looks like you need a 4" top to properly mount it, which I do not have. I am thinking of returning it, not worth the time and trouble. Anyone who has mounted one care to give me some advice?
