At $9.99, it was a good price. I did not like the threaded rivets. I kept the two big ones and did a countersink to help smooth out the feel of the handle. For the two smaller ones, I used solid pins that I had on hand. It would have been better if it came with a sheath. Looks good enough, but the threaded rivets and the placement of the finger stop don’t make it great. Fun project though.

I ditched the rivets and ground off the ridges. Then I reworked the tang to fit through a Bear's head finger guard and attached it to an Elk horn brow tine. It made a super fantastic knife. Too bad I can't upload a photo, it's one awesome looking, functional knife. I made it as a gift and the owner said they use it all the time!

This knife is bar far one of the slickest looking useful knives I have made. The edge is extremely sharp and the heft is perfect for those jobs that demand some serious hand-held real estate like fish, wild game. Tantos are beautiful knives in the first place because of the elegant design, but create your own handle and it is guaranteed to be a collectible keepsake. The Woodcraft price is the best I have found. ~Hugh Rardin

I just finished one of your Tanto kits. The build and finish were straight forward enough. Looks nice. But, when I showed it to some people who used knifes, the first thing they said was, "you are going to cut yourself if you stab something with that". The finger cutout is right at the cutting edge of the blade. I am going to file down the first 1/2 inch of the cutting edge to make this knife safer. I have another kit and plan to modify the scales to cover that part of the blade. It really should be redesigned, for safety.

Knife itself is nice, a great value. Threaded rivets are not worth the hassle. To use them you have to thin the handle stock so they can sit on top or countersink each side of the handle exactly so that the threads meet but are not loose. With typical 3/8 scales that means counter sink depths of 1/8 to 3/16 per side. Make sure you have a drill press or a tight stop collar on your bit for countersinking and a very sharp bit to avoid tearing out the hole. Much easier to pay a couple of dollars for steel or brass pin stock that can simply be cut to length and sits flush with the surface.

I ordered the Tanto, the Spear Point and the Skinner. These blades are very substantial and arrived on the day promised. What an incredible value at $9.99 each but are worth the full price. I can't wait to complete these.... heading to Woodcraft tomorrow to pick out some dimensional exotic wood! Thanks Woodcraft! Very pleased with you guys!
