It was great for the first use. Within a few minutes of the second time I used it, I was shaping maple, hit no metal, and the blade chipped! Very disappointing.

This is one of my favorite handtools to use, an absolute pleasure. Adjustment is easy. It just requires a patient eye and finger, and a couple of test runs. This is the best value of any hand tool I’ve purchased between various veritas, Stanley, woodriver, and various other brands. I’d buy a curved one if they made it.

Beautifully made, but the lack of a fine adjustment knob makes this spokeshave very frustrating to use.

I purchased this from woodcraft today, spent about 30 minutes setting it up (sharpening and dialing it in for fine shavings) and then put it to work smoothing over some radius corners (walnut). About 30 minutes in I noticed the blade had a sizable chip taken out of the edge already - too sizeable to just sharpen or grind out. I took a picture but I’m not sure I can add it here. The spokeshave, outside of the blade, seems like a fine enough tool and feels good in my hands, but I am not impressed with the quality of the blade whatsoever.

Ordered spokeshave online. Seems solid, good quality. However it arrived rusted, including the blade.

Like all wood river tools, its well made. Yet lacks precision manufacturing - thus renders this tool useless. Blade is not flat and hard to lap with bench stones or diamond stones. It is also very brittle, I even bought a replacement blade hoping it will be better, however results were the same. The low angle and poor steel make bad combination. Stanley spokeshave with replacement blade makes a lot better option. Otherwise there are two more tool companies that make tools that almost ready to work out of the box ( some honing required ) Save yourself frustration and despair and get quality tool. Since the replacement blades are simply junk, and no other options exists this tool went to the trash. We really don't need paperweights this days.

Excellent quality bevel up spokeshave. I feel this is an excellent alternative to a wooden spokeshave kit and more durable. This spokeshave is machined well and is what I feel is excellent quality and value for the money I'm very satisfied. The quality of work produced when using it is excellent. The precision flat ground spokeshave blade. My approximate dimensions eyeballed in 1/32" using a 6" steel ruler. 1/8" thick, 23/32" width, 2" ands 27/32" length, bevel width 10/32" width. I did not measure any thread length or diameter yet. Excellent quality. My precision flat ground spokeshave blade out of the box is both smooth and flat corner to corner, lengthwise and across its width. The RC 60-64 hardness is pretty impressive and good enough for my needs. Excellent quality. My precision flat ground spokeshave blade out of the box cut thin ribbons on both pine and oak. Understanding wood grain direction will greatly improve your skills. I feel the bevel up performs better shaves easier and produces a smoother finish than my bevel down spokeshaves that have been restored and sharpened to a razor edge. I did gently round the somewhat sharp non cutting blade edge bottom that contacts wood opposite the bevel. This was maybe a little over 1/64" not even a full 2/64" to prevent any possibility of the non beveled edge from catching. This is an excellent quality bevel up spokeshave. Please continue manufacturing them and have any necessary parts available.
