I have been watching Rob Cosman's YouTube videos and decided I really needed a hand plane in the workshop. I decided to order this one based on reviews and Rob's videos. I received the plane fast from Woodcraft and it has not disappointed me. In less than 30 minutes following Rob's video on set up I was taking shavings. based on how nice this plane is I plan now to get more like the low angle block plane. I highly recommend this plane for the price and quality.

I can't express how happy I am with this plane! I use it on my shooting board, I use it on edges and faces and almost never have to reach for a longer plane to get a smooth enough surface for finishing. With a sharp blade this plane consistently gives me onionskin thin shavings. This plane delivers on the promise that hand planes give you a better surface than you could ever get with sandpaper. Sometimes, I even go out to the shop, pick up this plane and a scrap of wood and just make shavings for the fun of it! I highly recommend this plane.

I had no problem with the Woodriver plane but was disappointed on how they were on back order so long and while waiting they went up on price. Due to this price increase I decided to upgrade to Lie Nielsen.

Good looking plane but for a beginner I was expecting just a little instruction on what all the different screws are for etc. I’ve watched all videos of Rob Crossman but shouldn’t it have come with something. JB

No matter how hard I try I can’t seem to get the blade sharp. The edge seems to crumble while honing no matter what I do. This is not my first wood River plane and all other are first class so I will be buying more of this line. This blade just has me confused.

I like this plane for flattening boards. However, I also wanted to use this plane for shooting boards to make the edges of a board 90 degrees to the flat side. I was consistently getting edges that were not 90 degrees so I checked the plane and it turns out the side of the plane is a little more than .006 inches off of 90 degrees over the width of the plane. This doesn't sound like much, but it causes a problem when you need your edges to be 90. The description says "sides machined flat and square." Wish I could get a replacement but I'm past the 90 day return. :(

I loved this 5 1/2 plane right out of the box. What a great, well built and sturdy complaining for my shop. I then bought the number 4 plane.

I can't tell of it occurred during shipping or late in manufacturing, but the front and back right-hand corners of the sole were damaged as if it had been dropped (on two corners?). I never even got it out of the inner plastic bag, the dinged areas were sharp enough to splint the bag, which is how I noticed. Very disappointed; currently in the RMA process, though I will say their help staff were pleasant to deal with. Also; made in China, FYI
