I found these easy to turn the body. I made a jam chuck for easy turning and used a cone shaped live center. After turning the body to size I used a caliper to mark both ends. Then turned the shape of the body followed by the accent groves. this first one I turned went very well with no plunger jamming. The next four had two that did jam. I think that when glueing in the end pieces there may have been some miss alignment between the upper and lower metal housings. To fix this problem you have two options. 1) Use a heat gun and soften the epoxy and realign one or both. 2) use a slightly larger drill on the plastic insert hole. I drilled out the plastic to the next larger size and they work well now.

Made several of these for family and friends they really like them and they are pretty easy to make

Very easy to make. It’s a good idea to make a bushing for the ends before you start. That way you know how thick you want the ends to be.

I was not sure how to turn this even with finding instructions online at woodcraft so I found a good video on YouTube which was very helpful. Take your time because each end is pretty thin. Otherwise it was a great and fun project to turn and immediately friends were wanting to buy it. I will be turning more if these.

Just received the last of my two dozen mechanism I order for the $12.99 ea since I have a dozen sets to make from the article in a Woodsmith magazine. I make them from Walnut and Maple woods. After I get them turned I inlaid Turquoise stone in the walnut and really makes them pop. Have all ready made about a dozen sets and now my family wants a set. I donated two sets, one set without inlaid Turquoise and the other with Turquoise. The sets were sold at an action for a fund raiser and the sets brought $72 and $95 for the cause. Had been selling them for about $ 60/$65 for the inlaid set. Wish there was a jam plug you could by like the ones sold on Woodcraft for the Pump and Grind mechanisms.

I turned this project more than a year ago. My wife loves it. It has been used daily on our dinner table. The kit is excellent, but requires accurate turning. Please be patient, and make sure you hit the marks. The tolerances are necessary for a successful project. I will buy again, and have requests for an four sets right now. ðŸ˜

I bought three of these kits and all three sets (6 grinders) had issues with the mechanism returning to the up position. I give these projects away as gifts so not the way I want my work reflected thus I cannot recommend nor will I purchase more.

Purchased 2 kits to give as gifts. Both kits have a paper thin stainless steel band at the bottom of the plastic reservoir connecting the reservoir to the stainless steel grinder base. The band has barely any thread depth and cross-threads the plastic and the stainless steel grinder base. For the price it should be better made.
