“The screw-together pins supplied with the kit are too short. I contacted the manufacturer and after having some issues getting through to someone that knew anything about their knife kits I was told they would look into it and get back to me. I was contacted by a person and she agreed that the pins were too short and they would be sending me replacement ones that were the correct length. They also said they would place a notice on Woodcrafts web site with info to contact them for the right parts. It's been almost a month and I have not received the correct pins and have noticed there is no notice on the Woodcrafts site either. Buyer beware who knows if their other kits are furnished with the right parts?”

“The knife is a good-looking knife but you won't be able to attach the scales to the knife. The screws are too short, I contacted the manufacturer and they are sending me longer screws and they told me they were going to make a note on the Woodcrafts web page with info to contact them for the correct screws”

“I bought the HT-7 knife kit and also purchased 4mm Mosaic pins to replace the ones provided by the kit. Didn't need to drill out the two holes in the handle because the 4mm drill bit worked perfectly. Your Woodcraft store should carry the mosaic pins (Woodriver J14, J15, J17 and J18). These make attractive replacements for the screw in pins that come with the kit. I used Padauk knife scales and the brass colored mosaic pins and the result was awesome.”

“I've had this kit laying around for a year and decided to build it as a Christmas present. I've always made wood handles but since this getting used outdoors I made it out of G10 like plastic. This is much harder to work with than wood but luckily I have a Grizzly combo spindle / disc sander and this made life a lot easier. The problem with this kit became evident when I tried to mount my new handles and would that the studs are way to short. The instructions call for the handles to be 8 mm thick where the studs go through but the threaded stud is 13 mm and the screw that goes into it is 4 mm for a maximum of 17 mm. The handles alone are 16 mm not including the 5 mm blade. I guess my options are drilled out the blade and handles and gluing in 3/8 brass rod like other knives I've done, find a longer screw or trying to countersink the holes in the handle to make the existing screws work. Poor design!”

“I bought this kit on sale and thought I had a pretty good deal. Not so. The screw rivets this knife comes with are too short to get a good handle on it. I tried to drill out the holes to use brass rods but have been unable to get even one hole drilled and there are 5 of them. I broke one drill bit that costs more than the kit and decided that was all. I worked on this knife off and on for 3 months, I decided to just shelve it and work on something else.”

“Serious ding for the holes being metric. If you market and sell a kit like this in the US then you should not use metric. I didnt want to use the screws this came with and the holes were too big or two small for all the rod available at my local Woodcraft. Drilled out the holes with great effort and three bits destroyed in the process. Speaks well to how hard the steel is I suppose but seriously...fractional inches in standard sizes please!”

“I have built a few knives from smaller blanks. This was my first without a guard. I didn't like the pins it came with so I bought some brass rods at the store. We had to drill out the handle for the 3/16 rods to go through the steel. We broke two drill bits but did get through it. I used oak for the handle and did some cutting and shaping before assembly. It was a bit different than the smaller knives I had done but with a bit more patience and measuring we came up with a pretty knife. My handle seems a bit bigger than the picture but fits my hand and does fit in the sheaf. It took about 2 1/2 hours.”

“The sheath strap is so short it will just barely go around the bare blade. Snapping to secure the blade with handles attached is simple impossible. Made in China. I would NOT recommend purchasing this kit.”
