Works very well for my limited needs. Used to sharpen pocket knives, kitchen knives, and the occasional chisel. I use a whetstone for serious sharpening, and this product for quick "touch -ups." The one in our wood shop is many years old, and has held up well. This is in contrast to other diamond sharpeners I've owned over the years, which quickly lose their grit. Only explanation I can offer to those who have problems with this product: perhaps you're using it for heavy duty work that should be done on a rotating whetstone.

The metal plate that holds the diamonds comes unglued if you use the recommended liquid. Even after wiping the manufacturers stone dry the thing comes unglued. Hardly worth the money, or hassle!!

Thank you for your review. I apologize for this issue. It not commonly encountered. We generally recommend using diamond stones with water. Please contact our customer service at 800-535-4482. and we will make this right!

I had high hopes, but left disappointed. Are the mono or poly diamonds, it is not stated so I can only assume they are the cheaper poly diamonds. Biggest disappointment is flatness. The 400 grit side is flat but the 1200 side is not. Wish I could get a replacement.

I bought one of these when they were on sale for $39.99 last month. At that price, I set my expectations accordingly, but I thought this would be useful for rough work like re-establishing the primary bevel on chisel or plane iron. And that was exactly what I used it for, I re-established the bevel on ONE, plane iron and now this "stone" is as smooth as a baby's bottom. The 400 grit side doesn't cut at all anymore after ONE (yes ONE) SINGLE use. I'm glad I bought it on sale, but wish I hadn't bought it all.

Mine is flat and it works just fine. I'm looking for Woodcraft to put out a 4,000/8,000 grit 10"x3" version. Now, that will make me a [very] "Happy Camper".

I have the smaller version of this. Sharpens small bits fine but over the width and length of the bed it’s definitely not flat so must bear in mind when sharpening wide tools.

I got these stones to start out in woodworking to sharpen chisels and plane irons which did the job for a while but over time they came out of flat. The plates are probably 1/8â€
