A great vise. Easy to build. Be advised the wood is not quite all surfaced so you will have to complete that. I used a 6” jointer by making passes on alternate edges and finishing it with a hand plane.

Just received and built the Moxon Vise with the Woodcraft hardware kit. I love it. Not sure how Gary or a couple others drilled their holes, but with a Fisch 3/4" Forstner bit, the Acme threaded rods fit perfectly. A bit of wiggle but certainly not sloppy, and the holes were surely not too small. From my perspective, keep up the good work!

Looks good, could be great, but is a miss. Should have read the reviews before buying. Bought this and some additional hardware to build a Moxon based mini-bench this holiday weekend. The write up says its a 3/4" acme thread rod - it is not, none of the additional standard hardware I bought based on "3/4" acme thread" (square 3/4"x6 acme threaded nut, 3/4" ID bushing and 0.76" ID compression spring) will work. People, hardware standards for globalization were pretty much resolved in the 1970's, there is no excuse for this today. This only works if you only stay with the non-standard hardware. To bad, I liked the chrome wheel over lever types, but the hardware will have to go back and my weekend plans will change trying to finding "3/4" acme thread" hardware for my mini-bench.

Kit works perfectly well. For the users (MH from Maineville and AH from LAFAYETTE) who couldn't get a 0.760" threaded rod into a 0.750" wood hole, there is a simple solution. Screw the rod into the wood. Really, works like a charm. With a diff of 0.010", the rod will screw into place easily and securely. You can use two of the included nuts if you need help screwing the rod in. The best part of this solution is that there will be no play.

I built it in a few hours & it's fantastic! Whether I'm using it to hold a board for planing or cutting dovetails it really holds. I'm going to add a larger right angle to the base as it can wobble just a bit without it, but I'm happy as could be. Being able to move it around is a huge plus, depending on what I'm doing with it. I'd highly recommend it. As for the Acme rods--a couple minutes with a rasp or such in the holes & it all fit perfect.

Excellent product and a good value. I used this vise on an eight-inch tall mini bench. When placed on my regular workbench, it really saves my back. The mini bench is deep and wide enough to perform nearly all functions aside from using hand planes. The Wood River eight-inch holdfasts work perfectly on the mini. I highly recommend both of these if you are tall, like myself. No more back pain from leaning over, and I only wish I had built it years ago.

The kit is pretty straight forward. If you're not a new woodworker you can probably assemble the vise by only looking at pictures of the finished product. The quality and finish of the parts is good, and the acme threads turn smoothly. The wheels have a healthy amount of weight to them so that if you give them a spin they'll rotate until the jaw contacts the work piece. I personally assembled my vise using two 3/4" pieces of plywood laminated together for each jaw since I didn't have hardwood that I particularly wanted to use for that purpose. My primary use for the moxon vise is dovetailing, and it is one of the best work holding solutions for that task. I spaced the threaded rods to suit the widest boards I anticipate, but if I ever had to go wider, all I'd have to do is make another set of jaws. I chose to go with a jaw design that allows the vise to be clamped to the workbench with holdfasts or a pair of f-body clamps. I would highly recommend this to anyone who dovetails a lot of boards by hand.

This unit looks really good. I started cutting holes, got all holes cut. But, when I went to install the 3/4:" treaded rod, It would not go in. My holes where cut exactly to .750". However, the treaded Rod is .760". The rod will not go thru the hole. Now, I have to figure out how to enlarge the hole. Lesson learned, Measure "Everything". Don't assume. It is disappointing to have put in a lot of measuring, and time and not have it go together.
