Thank you for your review. We’re glad to hear that you're enjoying the MK II Honing Guide. The roller is very durable and should not need replacing. I've used mine for over 20 years!

I wonder if you can change those knobs considering all the problems of slippage and angles being incorrect.

Product works perfectly, provided that both knobs are tightened at the same rate. I believe the issues stated in other reviews occur because the user is not tightening both knobs simultaneously, or at least incrementally (slowly tighten each side or alternative tightening each side slowly). My first experience with it resulted in some slipping but after changing how I tightened the knobs it resolved the issue

I agree with many that this guide has good quality and the attachment to set the proper length for a given sharpening angle is very helpful. However, I have had the issue with chisels sliding out of square and getting an uneven edge. With this issue I've gone back to using a much cheaper honing guide that clamps from the sides. Overall, disappointed with this product given the price.

Best sharpening system yet. I did 30 chisels and only 1 slipped it had a Dimond shape. I use a pair of players and carefully tightened it. It worked perfectly. I only did 1 planer blade but it worked perfectly. I highly recommend using plyers but only 1/8 turn . Don't gorilla it down🤣

Like some others have stated, the quality of craftsmanship is great, however, the design does not hold chisels firmly enough to prevent wandering and an inevitable off-squared edge/angle. At this cost, you should expect precision and repeatability (I purchased the deluxe set so my frustration of performance and cost is especially high). After hours of using this set for my plane irons and about 8-10 chisels, some new and others old and abused, I finally began to get a somewhat workable edge but that was due to going at an extremely slow pace and with constant fidgeting with the holding knobs. In my opinion, this set is garbage and there are many, cheaper honing guides that work better. Shame on Veritas, I would not recommend this to anyone.

I have to agree with the last review. Nice quality but poor design. Double Cherry chisels are tapered but the guide jaws are square, which leads to poor quality of sharpening . Would have been better holding blade with my hands. I had to file the hone clamp to fit the chisels.
