Workshop Heaven 3M™ Film Top Up Pack (Magnum)
Contains:
2 sheets each of:  40 micron, 30 micron, 15 micron and 9 micron, pressure sensitive adhesive backed, aluminium oxide microfinishing film. A heavier duty version of standard lapping film with a thicker backing and a stronger resin coating
2 sheets each of: 3 micron and 1 micron lapping film. The 3 micron grade has a 'P' resin coating making it slightly more durable than the other superfine grades. The 1 micron film is roughly equivalent to an 11,000 grit Japanese waterstone
1 sheet of:  100 micron microfinishing film for heavier material removal, regrinding primary bevels for example. This can either be stuck to the back of the glass or any other convenient flat surface: absolute flatness is less critical for grinding than honing
Sheet Size 8½" x 11" (216mm x 279mm).
Each sheet can be cut into four 2½" (69mm) wide strips.
Mineral: Aluminium Oxide
Regular price if purchased individually: £54.50

When used with 6mm float glass, this easily and quickly provides the simplest route to a razor edge.

Have tried oilstones and waterstones and wet and dry paper sandpaper to 5000 grit. The stones are very messy and paper has to be changed frequently. Glue residue is a pain. 3M gets rid of all these problems giving a superior mirror edge. Fantastic product. Lasts a long time and easy to change

An integral part of the way we teach tool preparation and sharpening here at Waters and Acland furniture School. The scary sharp system stays flat. This abrasive is of the finest quality. It all works as it is supposed too. We flatten the backs of all plane blades and chisels with this system.

This pack was to top up what I already had but this is sticky backed, so much easier than using contact spray. Lasts for ages and stays flat. Tried loads of sharpening stuff, this is by far the easiest and cleanest.

Having used alternatives for this method of sharpening this pack proved to be much better. The final mirror polish on the back and edge proved easy to obtain, mess and trouble free. Films are easy to apply to glass and have proved to be long lasting and easy to use.
