Experience the legendary smoothness and edge retention of Aogami (blue paper steel) in a western metal bodied handplane. This thin laminated replacement plane iron has been made and carefully heat treated for us by Tsunesaburo Hamono in Japan; they are a drop in fit and shouldn't require any modifications to the plane, no mouth filing, changing Y levers etc, just take the old one out and pop the new one in. Honing angles are the same as for carbon steel irons (25 / 30) and being laminated they are a pleasure to hone freehand, keep them clear of diamond stones though as the soft iron supporting layer can damage the diamond surface. Tsunesaburo Aogami (blue paper steel) laminated plane iron 60mm (2⅜") to fit No. 4½, 5½, 6 and 7 bench planes. Thickness: 2.6mm

I bought this as a replacement for. a sadly butchered Record laminated blade on an early Record 4 1/2. The blade came beautifully packed, like Apple products and was very easily flattened and honed, ie there was little to do! The blade cuts beautifully and leaves an absolutely immaculate finish. However, one caveat is that this blade is longer than most replacement blades and only just fitted into my old 4 1/2 by dint of putting the blade in place, followed by the the level cap and THEN screwing in the lever cab fulcrum screw. There is not enough overlap otherwise to fit over the screw head. Service from WH was first rate, as usual.
