Quangsheng Marking Gauge Reviews

Turned from solid brass with a hardwood infill, this achingly beautiful and superbly accurate marking gauge from Quangsheng is around twice the weight of comparable tools.
The stainless steel bar with accurate etched graduations makes what engineers would describe as a 'close sliding fit' within the body of the gauge.
The fence is recessed, allowing the cutter to be withdrawn safely inside the head and it also has a very discrete micro adjustment mechanism. Loosen the collar on the end furthest from the fence by rotating it clockwise (left hand thread) and hold it in place with your thumb. The head can then be rotated, 1 turn = ยนโ„โ‚โ‚†", to align the fence with the graduations. Lock the head in place and spin the collar up out of the way.
The 12mm circular blade is designed not to rotate as the tool is drawn through the cut, the amount of play required for the wheel to turn would diminish the accuracy of the mark by a similar amount.
Overall Length: 182mm
Walnut collar

Compares well to the Veritas equivalent, slightly more heft to it, wheel needs sharpening like all blades. Dual scale 5 inches/120 mm, need my glasses (like always!) and good light but I can read it OK.

Only drawback is the inscribed scale in that it is too faint to be able to be useable - pity. Otherwise it is a delight.

This is a fantastically put together tool. It has a nice weight and is a pleasure to use. Couple of negative points; The scale though perfectly accurate is a little too faint to read comfortably. I really cant work out how the micro adjuster is supposed to work. Regardless I would highly recommend.

The gauge is very stable. It fills really good and the body is very handy to scribe, also in small wooden parts. It makes quite easy to control de pressure against the wood.

There is a great video on youtube explaining how the micro adjust works, well worth watching. Additionally, I added a small reference mark on the face of the gauge so I can now accurately judge each complete turn of the micro adjustment. Hope this helps some people.

A very well made gauge which is a pleasure to use. Cutter was in need of a hone and you'll need good eyesight to see the markings on the shaft, but would be good value at twice the price.
