Quangsheng Twin Stem Marking Gauge Reviews

4.9 Rating 7 Reviews

This superb solid brass twin stem gauge from Quangsheng has a couple of very useful features. The bridle at the back is designed to hold the setting of the cutters relative to each other while the fence is adjusted independently, or vice versa if you want to adjust one rod but leave everything else set. With both cutters set to the same line and the bridle locked, you can use it as a standard marking gauge but with the option for which side you would like the bevel on.Thanks to the clever shape of the casting, the bridle can also be used ahead of the fence to stabilize the bars for cutting marks further in from the edge. In the horizontal position the cutters won't engage - rotate into the vertical position and the thinner wall of the saddle casting lowers the cutter into the work. A very controlled way to lay difficult marks. For a tool that is produced in volume, the cleverness of design, ease of use and overall finish on this gauge is remarkable.

A great quality tool to own and use. Lovely feel. Works well. Very precise. Good value. It has a flat side so it will not roll off the bench. No need to spend more on a Veritas guage only to see if fall on the floor. One tiny gripe is that the screws holding the blades in place can come loose a bit easily, but once one is aware of the possibility it is not a problem.

As usual, a very good product from Quangsheng. 95%of the quality at 50%of the price of the very best. It does what it’s supposed to do. It marks wood. Fit and finish is fine and again, as usual, excellent service from Workshop Heaven.

I bought one of these a few years back from here and it is a perfect tool. Used it loads of times with perfect results. Go gentle first stroke when working along the grain bit at a time move forward and pull back over what you have already marked then again and again until you have the whole make done. Once you have your mark the full length you can the go over it with more pressure to cut your mark deeper. Across the grain two or the stokes job done. Added bonus metric and imperial scales as standard. The only issue I have here in 2020 is that it is made in China.
