Beautifully forged and hand ground in Saint-Etienne, Ledin compasses, dividers and calipers may cost a little more than cheap mass produced ones but their rigidity, accuracy and reliability put them in an altogether different league.Flat polished carbon steel legs with sharp hardened points, braced with a burnished bowspring and governed by zinc bichromated quick acting nuts that can be pulled into position then twisted to fine tune the adjustment.
The maximum spread (capacity) is equal to the total length of the arms for an opening of 60° in this case 100mm.

I previously bought cheap (Silverline) brand dividers. The things almost took my eye out when they literally exploded apart in my hands on first use. I was almost on the receiving end of the sharp pointy leg which shot across the room. I vowed not to buy cheap again. After a bit of searching online, I opted for these Ledin deviders. I couldn't find much info on them, but they were marketed as a slightly more expensive pair boasting better quality. I don't know what I expected for around £20, but they mostly met with my expectations. I can certainly see they are a higher quality that what I owned before. The difference is pretty night and day. The speed adjustment nut is a nice touch and makes it very quick and easy to set the distance. The scribing points are sharp and overall the dividers seem to be robust. I can't vouch for longevity because I haven't used them much yet. I feel like they will last a long time. I took a star off because I was let down slightly by the finish. The steel is a bit rough in places and retains a lot of the grind marks. The brass fulcrum roller that the two legs pivot from had a small tooling nick etc. For a tool that was marketed as a cut above, these small details irked me. Overall happy with the purchase though. TL;DR - Functionality wise, can't complain. Aesthetics of finish, could be better.
