Star-M Single Flute Chatterless HSS Countersink 16mm Reviews

Read Workshop Heaven Reviews

The vast majority of countersinks are designed for working on steel and have three or more flutes. For softer materials like wood, plastics and yellow metals, a single flute design is preferable because it can't develop a resonance - the cause of chatter and triangular countersunk holes.Made in Japan from high speed steel, this single flute countersink produces beautifully smooth, concentric conical countersunk holes.Satisfyingly over specified for woodworking, if it does end up being inadvertently used on unhardened steel it is unlikely to sustain damage. It also performs superbly on brass, bronze, aluminium and plastics.

The single flute is far more likely to create a round countersink than the six-fluted alternatives. Lovely and simple design.

Only tried this on a pre drilled hole and found it wandered slightly giving an off centre countersink. Maybe best to countersink first then drill.

Best wood countersink I've ever used. Indents produced by this are perfect, only used on hardwood with an eggbeater so far and everything is smooth as silk. I would recommend this tool to anyone.
