This is a genuine handmade Higonokami knife, made by Mr Nagao, the last remaining blacksmith in the guild that is allowed to make Higonokami. They are a simple, cleverly designed, hardworking tool that has remained virtually unchanged in over 160 years. The Mini Higonokami has a closed length of just 63mm, it is light enough that you could carry it in a purse, on a keychain or just loose in your pocket. Carrying a pocket knife in the UK used to be completely normal. After years of not carrying one it is refreshingly liberating and civilised to be able to fetch a nice bit of laminated Japanese steel out of your pocket when you need to open a box, or packet instead of tearing it. As long as the knife conforms to regulations (this one does) and you use it responsibly, this simple pleasure is perfectly legal.A classic knife, with countless uses, at a price that won't break your heart if you accidentally take it through airport security and have to surrender it.
Blade length: 39mm
Case length: 54mm

Solidly build, tiny but big enough. Sharp ,just needed a fine hone. Using it more than thought I would. Bought another for a friend. Great service again and quick delivery.

This useful little knife is reminiscent of the penknives I carried (and lost) throughout my school years and into my twenties. The difference is, that this one is surgically sharp and can be maintained so by occasionally stropping on a strip of leather. This is the knife to have if you ever need to perform an emergency tracheostomy.

Tiny but mighty. Strong blade with a good edge which makes it surprisingly versatile.

Smaller than I thought but love it! Beautifully made and the blade sharpens well and holds a very nice edge! Really pleased with it!

Incredibly useful tiny Higonokami. Excellent steel quality. But clearly churned out. Laminate are off centre and a crude -not so- micro bevel had been grind on one side only. Spent almost three hours on a whetstone to remove quite substantial amounts of steel to return the blade to its intended ‘high flat grind’ with no extra bevelling. Now it’ll shave the hairs off a bumble bees back and hold that edge for a remarkably long time given the hardness of the core steel. Just as long as it’s used for it’s intended purpose (that doesn’t include removing ones pinky as a gesture of honour and obedience..)

It's tiny. (Fits into the small pocket of your Jean's.) But so well made and stays SHARP for a long time. I love it
