Higonokami Blue Paper Folding Pocket Knife Reviews

This is a genuine handmade Higonokami knife, made by Mr Nagao, the last remaining blacksmith in the guild that is allowed to make Higonokami. They are a simple, cleverly designed, hardworking tool that has remained virtually unchanged in over 160 years.
For those that prefer a little more luxury in their rustic pocket knife, the Blue Paper Higonokami has a laminated blade made from the famous Hitachi Yasuki 'blue paper' alloyed carbon steel. Although still very much a handmade tool it has a slightly better finish than the standard knife and comes with a nice folded brass handle.
Carrying a pocket knife in the UK used to be completely normal. After years of not carrying one it is refreshingly liberating and civilised to be able to fetch a nice bit of laminated Japanese steel out of your pocket when you need to open a box, or packet instead of tearing it. As long as the knife conforms to regulations (this one does) and you use it responsibly, this simple pleasure is perfectly legal.
A classic knife with countless uses at a price that won't break your heart if you accidentally take it through airport security and have to surrender it.

A very nice short and sharp blade bought for pruning use on my allotment. Nice cutting action, unfortunately the blade rusts after just a few uses, even though the blade gets wiped after us, suggesting the blueing process is not that good Admin: 'Blue paper' refers to the type of carbon steel used in the centre of the lamination, not to the steel being 'blued' as a corrosion inhibiting process, apologies for any confusion. Your purchase is fully warranted, if you'd like to return it just drop us an email.

It’s extremely sharp, and very easy to sharpen and cuts through stuff effortlessly. It arrived super fast. Definitely will last forever if taken care of, and arrived looking great. I did sharpen it more, although it comes quite sharp.

This arrived extremely quickly, and is very much as described, a pleasing handmade quality to it, but nonetheless nicely finished. The blade looks super, with a sort of rough back but a decent polish elsewhere, and you can make out the layered structure if you look closely. The blade arrived pre-sharpened to a razor edge (as in you can shave hairs with it). It looks like there's no stop to prevent the blade from touching the brass handle when closed, but the central part of the blade is very hard, a lot harder than brass, so I doubt this is problematic in practice. The folding action is initially quite stiff, but it relies on friction to stay folded (unless put in a close fitting pouch). I bought this as a gift but I want one for myself now!

This is my favourite pocket knife. The blade can be easily honed to a razor sharp edge which it keeps for way longer than I thought it would. I keep this in my pocket all the time, I use it to open packages, cut baking paper to size, cut loose threads, etc, etc, etc... Basically anything you can think of. I cannot recommend this knife enough. A razor sharp blade, easy to get out and put away, well made, and infinitely useful.
