2in (50mm) Quangsheng plane blade to fit No.4 and No.5 bench planes.This is a 3mm thick plane iron made from T10 water hardening carbon tool steel. Water hardening steels are more difficult to heat treat than either oil or air hardening steels but they take a finer edge.Hardened to RC60-63 these will equal or better the performance of just about any replacement blade on the market.Because the blade is thicker than the original irons fitted to some planes it may be necessary to file the mouth a little wider and extend or replace the yoke. My usual advice is to replace the cap iron first as this often delivers a significant benefit without the need for any alterations.
