Quangsheng No. 7 Bedrock Pattern Try Plane Reviews

5 Rating 8 Reviews
Read Workshop Heaven Reviews

At 22 inches the No. 7 try plane is the longest of the general use handplanes. It is four and a half inches longer than a No.6 and about 400g heavier. Excellent for jointing the edges of boards.
The long soles of fore planes and try planes ride over the perpendicular or diagonal furrows left after jack planing (or on a smaller scale those left by the planer thicknesser). They span the low spots and nip off the crests to bring the surface into true - hence the name 'try', 'trying' or 'truing' plane.
Quangsheng bedrock pattern handplanes, unlike the more common Bailey pattern, have a full contact area between the body and the frog. The frog can also be adjusted to widen or narrow the mouth of the plane without the need to remove the irons. Simply loosen the two locking screws on either side at the back of the frog, adjust the central screw to set your desired mouth opening and then nip up the side screws again. This system is easier, faster, much more accurate, and less likely to damage the cutting edge.

First of all the service from Workshop Heaven was excellent. Was delivered to my door from time ordered in 5 days, that was from the UK to Australia. I own several Quangsheng planes, the Quangsheng no 7 try Plane was no surprise. The quality is amazing, the sole is flat. The blade took me less than 5 minutes to prepare, I never had a blade that good before. Very precise Plane & very responsive, it feels nice & balanced. I highly recommend Quangsheng planes, they work like a premium plane. To me they are a premium plane.

Well machined flawless performer. Comparable with the Lie Nielsen and Veritas planes I own. It would help to have some care and use information and for the manufacture's not to grossly over tighten the frog screws and lever cap screw.

These Quangsheng planes from Workshop Heaven are excellent quality and great value for money. Buy them here as others claiming to be from the same factory just won't have the same quality control. We have a number of these planes both in our school and also in our fine furniture workshop.

This plane is a great deal. It is massive, well machined, and extremely easy to use and to set up--though the knob for adjusting the blade can be a bit tricky to get at. The weight and balance of it makes getting a 90 degree angle a breeze. I just love it.

First class plane - very well balanced so not heavy in the hand. Highest quality blade, very sharp. Worth every penny - I only wish I could afford more! Very tempted to buy the block plane with the 3 blades. You will not be disappointed
