This axe was bought in the hope that it would serve as a carving axe as well as a general-purpose small axe for one-handed use in chopping and splitting small green wood sections from 25 - 160mm (1" - 6") in diameter. It certainly does well at chopping and splitting but turns out to be a little too heavy to make a precision carving axe. In addition, the bevel is a little too steep for carving, although that could be quickly changed. Another limitation to carving is that a fully-choked hold (right up the handle next to the head) allows the two-prong nail remover to irritate the bare hand. However, it works perfectly with a thickish glove on. All in all, a lot of axe for your money and very useful for slightly heavier and less precise chopping and trimming tasks - but not quite a true carver's axe. The materials and construction are very robust, also, for the money.
