This set of 6 includes: 6, 10, 12, 16, 20, 26mm Chisels.
Workshop Heaven 'Victorian' bevel edged chisels are the result of a collaboration with a few like minded friends,
The handles are slender 'Best London Pattern Satinwood Octagons' turned for us in Sheffield at one of the few remaining original Victorian courtyard factories. The waisted bulb is lovely and narrow and the 1³⁄₁₆" AF octagon fills the hand just nicely without being too full.
The blades were specially made for us by Narex. Forged from high carbon steel with a composition very similar to late Victorian crucible, they are ground to the 8116 pattern that we worked on together some years ago, it has nice thin edges and a particularly light and elegant bolster that works very well with this handle. I think they may have done something special for us with the heat treatment too, sharp eyed observers may notice the shadow line or hamon on the blades.
The handles and blades come together in the ironmonger's workshop, just as they would have done in the past, where we maintain through practice the skillset of the cutler. Each handle is finished with Peacock Oil Clear Wick before being installed with a hand cut leather washer.
Wrapped up in brown paper packets and tied up with string, these beautiful chisels will hopefully inspire future generations that making things to last is a worthwhile endeavour.

After much though I decided to buy this set of Satinwood handled cabinet makers chisels. Much thought because I have many old Marples Cast steel ones and a large set of Scharwhecter carbon steel with boxwood carver handles. These chisels though with their beautiful octagonal satinwood London pattern handles are really superb. I like the fact that the backs of the blades are extremely flat and that the blades are also polished which removes the sharp sides of the blades. Sharp sides of the blades can cut your fingers when paring timber with your index finger wrapped around the front of the blade with thumb on the back. I usually have to run blade sides over the oilstone to remove the sharpness. These chisels cutting edges are very sharp out of the box but I still honed a second edge on and found the steel to be pretty hard. There is also quite an attractive hamon line on every blade showing that the whole blade is hardened and not just the first few inches. Every handle is perfectly made with not the slightest blemish or inaccuracy in the turning. A Leather washer is fitted between the blade bolster and handle allowing light use of a mallet if necessary but once honed to a razors edge I have found the heel of the hand enough to drive these beauties. They are some of the nicest chisels I have used in over 45 years of Carpentry/joinery. I don't think anyone could fail to be impressed by these chisels. So impressed was I that I bought a set with Rosewood handles too! Dave.
