Thanks for the review and the comment. Yes. You are correct, this winch is not designed to be automatically released. It is a feature, in fact, that keeps costs down. It's design is the most common style of rescue winch design. There is, of course, a winch/tripod system we sell that does have this feature, but the winch/tripod system is quite a bit more expensive - over $3000.
