I have a combination of incandescent, halogen MR16s MLV, Xeon ELV, and ELV LED lights in my home, and I wanted a solution that works with all of them. If you don’t make sure the dimmer, transformer, and light bulbs are all compatible with each other, things will either not work, or you will put strain on the transformer and blow it out. Fortunately, Lutron Caseta line has solutions for each. Note, this particular dimmer was used for my MLV lights (neutral wire required). The Lutron website is confusing and Prolighting’s website contains out of date specs from Lutron that are no longer accurate. I found lots of conflicting information, but Lutron support is really good and they emailed me very clear product literature to help me figure out all of the different parts I needed. Unfortunately, the MLV and ELV dimmers are stupid expensive (which docked them a star).

I have installed many of the Caseta Dimmers, and a couple of the PRO dimmers. For me, the main difference is that the PRO dimmers allow the addition of a dumb switch as a remote, which does not count against the 50 device limit for caseta, and I can use a waterproof outdoor switch housing for the dumb remote. I am very happy with the quality of the Caseta system, I have a ~2000 square foot house and have had not range or communications issues, and switches and remotes are instantaneous.
