“I bought this while trying to help a friend fight alcoholism that he caught after losing his job of 23 years. He would constantly call or walk over while drunk and not making sense. I finally had to make the boundary that I would only talk/visit with him if he would take a breathalyzer. If he was drunk, the only thing I would do for him is take him to the hospital or rehab. One time he agreed to go after blowing 0.36 and the hospital blood test came back at 0.35. He did sober up for a while and lived with his mom who I gave the breathalyzer to so she could check his sobriety. He "fell off the wagon" a lot and his mom had to kick him out. Now it's just a constant cycle and the breathalyzer is extremely useful with dealing with him. Seeing his struggle made me aware of my own drinking. So I also used the breathalyzer to help reduce my own drinking. I figured out that the perfect point for me where alcohol makes me feel relaxed but not "impaired" (balance or speech wise) was right between 0.06 and 0.08 which is right around 2 drinks, so now I frequently skip the third.”
“Works great but noticed since I bought 2 other s80's several years ago that there is less resistance blowing into the mouthpiece so be prepared to take a very large breath in order to complete the test. I realize it's best to get the deep lung air but at 62 years old I'm often running out of breath before it clicks. The older ones had more resistance in the mouthpiece, the new one is like blowing thru a large straw with zero resistance so your breath goes quick. Still find the s80 to be the best bang for the buck for reliability.”
