“All I can say is Wow! re: Ken Follet's writing course - Writing Bestselling Fiction.
I am struck by the amount of writing experience that Ken has access to. He has opened my eyes to novel writing and how much work that it entails.
Ken is a very perceptive, clear, communicator who is used to dealing with speaking to an audience.
His course is eloquent, succinct, humorous, and engaging. I have listened to two parts per day in the last week or so and I have not been bored.
I have also taken lots of valuable notes/advice from his great intelligence, which he wears lightly.
I like the meticulous way that he presents the course information, (especially those helpful little details from his own writing experience)). I also how Ken keeps his delivery earthy, and concise.
Another plus is that he has guests who have experience in writing and research that is different from his own. I find it useful to have alternative points of view about the best-selling novel process. This is a great example for me to follow when I get to that particular phase in my writing.
Ken gives many wonderful examples of how a best-selling novel is written from his work, as well as from literary masters. This encourages me in my quest to write a really good novel. in the next three years!
I'd recommend this writing course if you are thinking about writing a novel, particularly a historical, or a thriller book.
Ken Follet's Writing Best-Selling Fiction sessions give you more than enough information to inspire you; do the initial research, and most importantly, challenge yourself to create/write the best novel that you can.
I'm already writing my outline before I begin my research...”

“This has been an incredible experience. I've always wanted to become a full-time writer and have finally committed myself to becoming one. After learning to read around four years old, I've engorged myself with the written word like a tapeworm in a fat man; and rewritten (for myself) the endings of books that I didn't like. In school, several teachers told me I should consider journalism, but I didn't want to grow up to be a liar. (Forgive me: I'm Southern.)
Mr. Follett's Maestro series is incredible on so many levels. First, he is a charming, sincere, and kind gentleman than freely presents his world-class experience and knowledge in a way that few could ever imagine. His chemistry with the camera allows the viewer to feel as if they are two friends sitting down for a much-anticipated discussion over tea. He describes every detail of each lesson with such ease and positive verbiage that the viewer remains eager for more. (Each part of his course is reinforced and well documented in accompanying print outs.) At the same time, he makes it very clear that success only comes from commitment, perseverance and doing the required work. And his presentations should make most viewers eager to make that commitment. Finally, he gives the viewer ease in knowing that writers share many attributes in thought, processing and other daily actions that give us comfort and sometimes concern. His references to other authors and their techniques are helpful, as well as his discussions with lesson guests.
Finally, Mr. Follett’s constant attire and bright main room used in the lessons adds such subliminal interest. He is the ink in the magical worlds of his novels: comprising the massive bookcase behind him in multiple languages and covers. I have come to admire dark gray pants and waistcoats. Worn with an impeccable white shirt. The largess of light and variety of novel illustrations, as well as the variations in décor, and his wonderful chair grab the viewer. I also appreciate the attention given to his gestures as he explains his topic at hand. He makes the multiple steps of fiction writing that lead to the printed book so logical and inviting.
I intend to review his lessons often, and to sustain my BBC Maestro membership for this and so many more reasons.”
