Writing Comedy for Television with Bill Lawrence Reviews

I'm sure Bill Lawrence is a fantastic comedy writer, but I'm afraid his delivery of the course is not quite up to scratch. There are, however, quite a lot of useful tips and tricks, but Bill's continual use of 'er, um, erm' etc are considerably off-putting. It makes the course virtually un-listenable, for me at least.

Very informative and even entertaining. I love listening to him talk about how he wrote shows I live! The pdf is fantastic as a reference and the beats vs outline was incredibly helpful.

Very American-based. Is this relevant to the British market? Especially as it comes from the BBC. Personally, I do not find his writing funny. I have done screen writing courses in the past and this was not nearly as good. What I would have liked was more analysis. Perhaps that he took apart a whole pilot of someone else's work - like Mash- to demonstrate the structure. Timing jokes etc. I think your boxes below, re motivation demonstrates that you are setting the audience appeal too wide. You promote these courses as learning but this was just celebrity interest/ entertainment. Not really serious instruction. And the last ep with his young writer was cringe worthy.

It was a delight hearing a prolific showrunner's path and details on writing a script, as well as thoughtful mentorship. It was very comprehensive and inspiring.

I like the modules being broken down into specific topics along with homework/exercises to help you apply what Bill just spoke about.
