“Magical advice with a healthy dose of realism: Isabel is a repository of writing wisdom and experience and it is a privilege to be able to sit at her feet and benefit from her insight. She does not explicitly say so but it seems that Isabel is, primarily, a 'pantser' as far as her writing methodology goes. Even if you are inclined towards heavy plotting there are many invaluable nuggets which will inspire and inform. This course would pair well with another by an author who delves more deeply into the craft of constructing a plot. After the excellent advice on how to write a novel, the main takeaway is the 'why'. Write because you are inspired to do so not because you want fame or fortune because it will take a hefty dose of good fortune to accomplish just the publication of your book, even if you are as good as you hope you are!”

“Storytelling is a magical yet lonely journey. Isabel Allende elevated that loneliness by sharing her own experience of discovering and pursuing writing. I am an immigrant myself and write mainly in Farsi so it was a real honor to follow Allende's path from the beginning to the end. She is also very funny. Great joke delivery too. Thank you! Even though this is a one side road I felt seen and heard as a writer.”
