“To be able to sit and watch Gary Barlow during his songwriting process feels like an incredible privilege. Gary is very detailed in his approach and you can tell he really, REALLY wants to help inspire you to write wonderful songs. What I really like is Gary SHOWS you how he writes. This isnt theoretical, it is Gary writing a new song in front of you. Talking about what he is thinking and feeling, and critically what is informing his decisions. A MUST for any aspiring or experienced songwriter. Just wonderful, well done to Gary and the team at BBC Maestro.”

“I would highly recommend anyone interested in pursuing any creative arenas to watch this course with Gary Barlow. I found it highly inspiring watching his songwriting process real time and also his lessons about confidence, grabbing opportunities and creativity which resonate for all creative genres. If you need a creative shove, this is the one to watch. I am interested in poetry and thought listening to a singer songwriter might inspire - indeed it did. Thank you Gary!”

“I'm recommending, but mostly for beginners or fans wanting to write songs similar to Gary's brand of pop music. There are some tidbits of practical advice: getting outside of your comfort zone, scatting melodies if you've got no lyrics yet, recording EVERYTHING when inspiration hits (on a phone, notepad, etc), finding hooks that you can imagine someone singing in the pub, etc. I don't know that this course taught me anything novel, but sometimes going back to basics can be a nice source of inspiration.”

“I'm only about half way through the course, but it would need to improve massively to be worth anywhere near the money spent on it.
Gary Barlow is really likeable, he comes across well, he knows his stuff (obviously, as he is a musical legend). But I don't feel that I am learning much apart from thinking that he is a good bloke.”

“Gary Barlow's course was not quite what I expected. I have been through a number of structured courses on songwriting and that was the approach I anticipated, but instead this was more like visiting Gary Barlow at work for a chat whilst he worked. Whilst both approaches have their merits, seeing how Gary progressed through writing an actual song shed much more light on the decisions and approaches a songwriter has to make when creating a song. His inspiration, explanations and informative examples made the process come alive. The brief diversion into writing for musicals was particularly interesting since I am considering moving in that direction myself in the future. The course was also an encouragement to me because I have already been applying some of those approaches to my own folk, country and pop songwriting.”
