I don't write YA, so I was going to pass on this one. I'm glad I didn't. It was a joy to watch her as she's so full of enthusiasm when she's teaching. Writing (whether for young or old, tall or short, or...) is writing.

Amazingly enjoyable, interesting and useful course. Had a lot of pleasant days watching it and making notes. Malorie Blackman is such an charismatic and inspiring tutor, who is able to make complicated things clear even for me. Thank you.

Malorie was by far the best of the courses I have looked at so far. The app (Just like Sounds is far from good - constantly forgetting where you are in the course and re starting the same lesson, even if almost finished a chapter when last looled at and also not very easy to search - which is crazy saying as there is not actually that much to search, but still frustrating design.) On the whole the courses are very much NOT worth the money you charge for a single course - on the annual subscription it is just about worth it for the 'interesting' insight into the people, but in just about every case reading a book would provide much better teaching and skills. Will not be renewing or recomendeing.

I want to start by saying, I don’t plan on writing for young adults. My genre of choice is Horror – Horror intended for an 18+ audience - and to be completely transparent, I purchased a BBC Maestro subscription because I was interested in some of the other writing courses (the thrillers and the chillers, the suspenseful and fantastic – all of which had been great!) However, after I exhausted the supply that tugged at my immediate interest (and since the format of these classes is quite addictive – great work, BBC Maestro!), I told myself, what the heck! I ought to expand my horizons; there’s so much more to learn on this site (and my subscription doesn’t expire for another 2 months, so there’s that). I browsed back, and I browsed forth, and that is how I stumbled upon Malorie Blackman’s course “Writing For Young Adults”. I’m not one to use the word ‘love’ lightly, and, let me tell you, I LOVED this course. I drank it up. I had at least one “Aha!” moment per lesson. I learned so much, and Malorie’s enthusiasm and passion for the craft made the learning experience all the more enjoyable. Listening to her was an absolute treat! I took 8 pages worth of notes and I’ll make sure to apply the tips, tricks, and advice to my own writing from now on, even if I plan on targeting an audience older than her’s – and speaking of my writing, this is the main reason why I’m sharing this review: In my opinion, the course name “Writing For Young Adults” (although accurate, since Malorie writes for young adults) is like calling gold “a metal”. If you’re a writer, but don’t plan on writing for ‘young’ adults, give this course a try anyway! It’s fantastic and Malorie’s advice is invaluable! And in case you don’t hear anything you haven’t before, you’ll find, at the very least, that her energy is contagious. You need some motivation to write? This is it!

Malorie’s course has been even more insightful and fun than I anticipated. I’m attempting a YA novel myself, so her lessons were particularly helpful. Her thorough start to finish breaking down of YA writing coupled with her vivacious personality and teaching style has resulted in a fun, fascinating course!

Malorie has such enthusiasm and energy while imparting wisdom and insight. You'll love this course. She has so much practical advice for any writer, at any stage of their writing process. I can't thank her enough for being so candid and open about the whole thing. People aren't often as clear as this so pick up all the tips you can. It's worth it's weight in gold.
