“I received my order already thank you, but with three little vexations, one is that the android remote control was missing from the package, the other one is that the manual zooming, and focus are hard or impossible to move, they suppose to be smooth, and last is that the best place to put the projector in my living space is at 25 feet away from the screen for been close to the wall, this will give me a 210" screen but my wall is 150" wide, How can I make the screen smaller to fit the wall dimension? Epson has a technology that let you fix each corner of the screen and make the screen fit no matter how far you are from it. If Benq has it, please let me know how to fix this problem. Other than that, I have no cons with the performance with this beast of a machine, 3D looks great and 4k gaming looks great but it could have been better. Oh. One thing you should consider is to create a two inches long female and male hdmi cable to prevent damaging the hdmi hook ups of the projector now that in time they get damage from constant hdmi plug ins and unplugs, if you know what I mean ! This way the thing getting broken will be the unexpensive replaceable two-inch cable. If you can make the Android remote control available to me with no charge that will be totally appreciated.”
Hello Carlos,
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the BenQ HT4550i projector! We're glad to hear that you are pleased with its performance, especially the 3D and 4K gaming capabilities. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions for improvement.
We apologize for the missing Android remote control and the difficulties you're experiencing with the manual zoom and focus. Please contact our support team at benqsupport.us@benq.com or 866-600-2367, and we will arrange to send you the missing remote control at no charge.
Regarding your projection distance issue, each projector has different throw ratios, which determine the image size based on the distance from the screen. To achieve a smaller screen size at a 25-feet distance, you may need to consider repositioning the projector closer to the screen if possible. Our support team can provide further guidance on optimizing your setup.
Thank you again for choosing BenQ and for your valuable feedback. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve these issues.
Best regards,
BenQ Customer Experience Team
“The image from this projector is bright and beautiful, and any high res media will look incredible on it (especially 4K discs). Mine did fail after several months, but it was still under warranty and the repair process was quick and easy. Hopefully that won’t happen again… It was also a bit difficult to find a solution for my long (50ft) cable run, but I finally found something that works perfectly: HDMI over ethernet. I highly recommend giving that a shot if you’re having issues using traditional or even AOC HDMI cables with this projector. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend this projector to anyone looking to upgrade to a 4K home theater.”
“This projector ticked all the required boxes for me:
Full rec709 & DCI P3 color space coverage, 4K and HDR, a higher output "bulb free" 4-LED light engine for consistent image quality. Each one comes with a spec sheet showing tested image tracking data for your specific projector. A longer than normal warranty. They really are putting care into each one.
3-D playback is also extremely important for my work. The HT4550i delivers this extremly well. For 3-D viewing the image is very bright - key for any light loss incurred by the 3-D glasses. The projector runs at 144hz for 24p 3-D, just as theatrical Real-D and Dolby 3-D single projectors. This means 72hz per each eye side (L/R), a clean 3-3 cadence vs the progresive 3-2 pulldown required by 120hz designs. And all of the common 3-D formats are supported. Frame packing from 3-D bluray players via HDMI 1.4 standards, as well as hSBS, hTnB, and frame sequential.
I am at the 1 year point now owning this projector. Zero regrets / highly recommended.”
“Pros:
- small form factor
- brightness
- horizontal and vertical lens shift
- HDR content looks great
Cons:
- mediocre black levels
Overall a great upgrade from my HT3550”
“The projector performs exactly as I expected. The light is as bright as a TV which allows the screen to be visible even during the daytime. Finally a bright projector that is not the cost of a used car!
The big opportunity is that the projector will flip between HDR and Cinema mode resulting in a moment of black between settings. While this is not necessarily the projector’s fault, and has to do with the signal being sent to the projector from another device, it is incredibly frustrating to have to fine tune the settings to get it to stop.
When using a receiver it would be nice to shut off the projectors ability to send a signal to the receiver and rather have it as a device that only receives an input without anything being output. The receiver’s auto source detection feature is often confused when it detects the projector is on, even though another device like Apple TV or PS5 is the primary source of content. It would be nice to have a mode where the projector does not output anything when connected to the HDMI 1 port and makes it become a monitor rather than another unnecessary smart device with streaming abilities.
Those small technicalities are not worth discounting the quality of what the primary function is. Well worth the price for 4K projection and incredibly bright output!”
“I came from a three year old HT3550, which I love. The picture quality on the 4550 was definitely amazing, especially noticeable in the sharpness during games like Diablo 4 and A Plague Tale. I also watched some HDR content and really noticed the contrast improvement over my 3550.
Sadly though, I ultimately returned it. The one major thing holding me back was the buzzing sound of the DLP chip (it's a separate, distinct sound from the fan itself). It sits at a pitch that just is always there in any quiet scene of a movie or game. My 3550 has the exact same fan noise, but none of the DLP projector chip noise. That extra sound was just too much for me to justify keeping it. I loved everything else about the projector, but since my home theatre space forces me to have the projector near by sitting space (it is mounted on the ceiling), I am very picky on the noise the projector generates.
After returning it, I went back to my 3550 with a new bulb. I'm sure I'll try the next gen that BenQ releases in a few years from now. I hope they get the DLP chip sound lower than this one.”
