PD3225U|32-inch 4K UHD 2000:1 P3 Thunderbolt 3 Mac® Compatible Designer Monitor Reviews

4.2 Rating 5 Reviews
Having decided to upgrade from a 2017 iMac to a new Mac Mini, I gave a lot of thought as to which monitor to buy. The PD 3225U was a terrific choice for four main reasons: 1. Ergonomics. Unlike people who plop their monitor on top of a ream of paper, I need my monitor to sit as low as possible on my desk. At its lowest position, the bottom edge of the monitor is only 3" above the surface of my desk. Perfect. And the Mini still fits underneath it! 2. Color. The included Display Pilot software, a menu bar app, makes setup a breeze. With just a click or two I was able to match the color on the BenQ monitor to the aforementioned iMac and my MacBook Pro. The display is brilliant and vibrant. The hockey puck color configurator offers far more capability than I will need. Plus, no dead pixels. Whew! 3. Resolution. Out of the box, all windows and screen elements were larger than they appeared on my iMac. That's the difference, I guess, between a 5K and a 4K display. But this wasn't what I wanted. I didn't need things to appear larger on screen - I wanted MORE of everything to fit on the screen. That was why I moved up from the 27" iMac monitor to this 32" monitor. The fix was amazingly easy. In the Mac's Displays settinge, simply change the screen resolution from the default 1920 x 1080 to 3008 x 1692 (fourth box from left). All windows, menus, etc. immediately shrank to the size they appeared on my iMac screen. And everything, including text, is crisp and sharp. (The hockey puck does allow one to adjust screen sharpness, but I saw no need to change the default setting.) In retrospect, I wish I had zoomed in on several photos to compare detail on the iMac and BenQ. But, I forgot to do this before I decommissioned the iMac. At normal screen sizes, though, the images on the two monitors were indistinguishable. 4. Port hub. There are many combo SSD drive enclosures and hubs now available that are specially designed for the new M4 Mini. You may want one of these to slip in an SSD drive or two, but you probably won't need to buy one for the ports. The PD3225U offers a staggering array of ports, including three that are built into the righthand side of the monitor for easy access. Like I said in the title of this review, the BenQ PD3225U is a terrific monitor for me—and maybe for you as well.

In my 30+ years of purchasing monitors for my computers I have always used the most color accurate, high resolution monitors available. Compatible, accurate color-space LUTs, monitor to print have always been highly important to the quality of my work. This is especially important today where communication between clients, designers and printers is often done online. My first BenQ was a SW2700-PT, a 2K professional I bought in 2015 and still using - sRGB, aRGB, BW color spaces are all still accurate. My new PD3225 is 4K and Thunderbolt 3 to cover my current video work. In my experience, no other monitor compares to the quality of color accuracy, build, feature-set and utility that my BenQs provide.

I upgraded from the original Apple Cinema Display with multiple adapters connected to both an Intel MacBook Pro and a M1 MacBook Pro. I do a lot of photo editing in Lightroom, Neo and Photoshop and color accuracy was key. The M Book ColorSync mode works perfectly. I also have a fairly large music studio and the Benq has enough USB inputs that I didn't need any of my hubs.. Screen height, tilt and rotation adjustment are a breeze. The stand is a work of art. Finally I chose this Benq because of the higher brightness of 400 nits and I'm glad I did.
