“I've had the GV31 and GV50 side-by-side, and there were several things worth mentioning that are not clearly covered in the website.
First, the upsides of the GV31:
1. Fast Projector UX - underrated advantage compared to the GV50. Projector settings (power, picture settings etc.) use the "old" UI, which is blazingly fast compared to the GV50's GoogleTV-based UI. If you're familiar with the UI from BenQ's performance projectors (HT2060 etc.), you'll feel right at home.
2. Fast startup if you do not need the Android TV dongle
3. Backlit remote control: this was a very nice feature on the GV31 that was unfortunately dropped in the GV50.
4. 1D keystone. I actually consider this an upgrade vs 2D keystone; 2D keystone doesn't always get the shape right. 1D keystone is simple yet very effective, and also much easier to configure manually.
5. Noticeably lighter
And now the downsides:
1. There seems to be a green-ish tint to the color that is un-negatable with any of the stock color options.
2. Speaker leaves something to be desired, especially compared to the GV50. The subwoofer is a nice upgrade compared to some competitors (Dangbei Atom etc.), but the GV50 had a clear advantage here.
3. Fan noise was notiecably louder than the GV50.
4. The Power setting resets to low after turning off. This was incredibly frustrating.
5. The media controls on the remote (play/pause) don't work for HDMI-connected devices (AirPlay on iPad, etc.). This was very unfortunate.
6. The stand comes off easily when moving the projector around. This seems to have been significantly improved in the GV50, where the stand feels much more solid.
7. Not as bright as the GV50 - to be fair, this was to be expected.
One other thing: when you want to "flip" the display upside down (say when you want to project to the ceiling), GV31 and GV50 have different solutions. On the GV31, it's done through the projector menu, in a few clicks. On the GV50, the projector does this automatically (when you rotate the device upside down). Both ways worked fine for me, but YMMV.”
