“Excellent image quality. In-built speakers are good. No surprise, very convenient to move the projector between rooms and project on the ceiling as advertised. However, there is a little lag in the response for what is requested using the remote control which would be really good to improve upon (seems to be more of a software issue). But otherwise, looks a good purchase.”
“I've had the GV50 and GV31 at the same time to directly compare the two, as well as some experience with the higher-end HT2060 projector. There were several things I found out from owning the projectors that I couldn't have known just from reading the website or from other reviews. I'm hoping that this review will help out others.
The biggest deciding factor was the Speaker Quality. For context, I've tried the GV31, HT2060 and various other projectors from other companies. Many projectors boast about the picture quality (high lumens, high contrast) or the smart TV features (Google TV), but almost all of them have very sub-par speakers and do not include a subwoofer. For example, the HT2060 was picture-wise an *amazing* projector, but the dual 5W speakers sounded imbalanced for most content (movies, sports).
GV50 stands out because it not only includes a subwoofer, but it sounds surprisingly good and balanced. Even when compared to the GV31 which has a similarly spec'd speaker setup with a subwoofer, the GV50 just sounded a step above. This isn't a concern if you plan to connect the projector to a dedicated sound system, but for me the built-in speaker quality was the deciding factor.
One other thing: The stand is much more solid now, it doesn't come off when you move it around. This was a small annoyance with the GV31, so I'm glad it's been improved.
Of course, the GV50 is not without its downsides:
1. Slow UX: the projector settings are now unfortunately part of the Google TV interface, which is sluggish. I really wish it had the old-school BenQ menu that is separate from Google TV.
2. Slow boot: You need to wait for Google TV to boot, even if you are not using Google TV (e.g. only using the HDMI or USB-C). It can take up to 1 minute.
3. The remote control is not backlit. The GV31 had a backlit remote, so this is a downgrade.
4. Heavier than the GV31.
YMMV. For me, the speaker quality put this projector above all others, including the HT2060.”
“Outstanding picture quality, very good value for the price and projector brightness look good during day too. It runs silently without any noise. Auto focus and auto correction works too good. Integrated with Google TV which makes BenQ gv50 a smart projector . I really hope they make a 4k native variant in this portable series.”
“This projector is above my expectation. It has good battery life and the size of screen can go beyond 120 inches with high quality. So far we love it! Thanks to the carry bag to make it more convenient!”
“The BenQ GV50 is an amazing portable projector that delivers impressive picture quality, perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. The colors are vibrant, and the clarity is exceptional, making it ideal for movie nights or presentations. Its portability is a huge plus—it's lightweight, compact, and easy to set up, so you can take it anywhere with ease. The built-in speakers are decent for casual use, but the real standout is how handy this projector is for on-the-go entertainment. If you're looking for a versatile and high-quality projector, the BenQ GV50 is a fantastic choice!”
“I started out my projector era with the gv30 and was very satisfied with that projector until it was struggling a bit to handle sunlight during the day. The gv50 was just the upgrade I was looking for, while still being affordable. My only complaint is that the projecter interface has a slow reaction time to the home button/volume button etc..., however, I am optimistic BenQ will roll out a future update to fix these minor inconveniences. Great projector overall, and the picture is crystal clear. Lastly, the auto keystone feature is more intuitive in the gv50, making it a great projector for any setting you put it in.”
