Today, while cycling is more popular than ever, it is also increasingly dangerous to have different modes of transport on the same road or path. This is as valid for motorists as it is for pedestrians, cyclists, scooter riders, horse riders, etc. In anticipation of a hypothetical incident (not to say an "accident"), I equipped my ATV with a front camera. It is an old GoPro, Hero2 model, which still works very well despite its age (10 years). Its only problem is that its battery life is quite limited. With an extender, I barely arrived at 2:30 a.m. Which, you'll agree, isn't great for a mountain bike. The other problem is that my Hero2 doesn't have a "dashcam" mode where the oldest videos are erased when the memory card is full. I can assume that stability management has improved and that it is possible to have a dashcam mode on the current models. When it comes to the battery, GoPro doesn't fare any better because its cameras come with a host of features that are useless to me but eat up as much energy as a grasshopper in a wheat field. Incidentally, a friend of mine told me about a camera model, made in Australia, that was designed with safety (or "post-accident") as the first criterion. The company Cycliq (https://cycliq.com/) has produced several generations of front and rear cameras that offer a lot of positive points. To make a long story short, the FLY12 PRO model is for the front and the FLY6 PRO for the rear. It was the latter that I ordered. On an MTB, you can't install a rear camera anywhere. The seatpost is problematic because of the retractable models (Reverb, ...). On the seat tube, the camera is a little too low and it's going to pick up all the grime, not to mention using a fender. So, I was looking for a model that could attach to the underside of the saddle. I also wanted a battery life of at least 4 hours. With 7 hours of recording, I'm overwhelmed. I had my doubts about the stabilization but they were quickly dispelled. The FLY6 is waterproof (IP67 standard). It is also equipped with a (red) light with 8 modes (flashing and steady) that is clearly visible from a distance. Personally, I don't use this light but, hey, it's probably not useless if you ride in the evening. The FLY12 PRO model is for the front and offers a white light of 400 lumens. Other features are similar to those of the FLY6. That said, there's nothing to stop the FLY6 from being mounted frontally on your bike. The "incident" mode automatically saves the recording if the camera angle exceeds 60° for more than 5 seconds. As for how it works, it comes down to pressing a button before you start pedaling. As standard, it comes with software (PC & Mac) as well as an app that allows you to make all the settings. It can also be paired with your Strava account to automatically produce a dashboard-style video. Cf. https://youtu.be/VdbiPa07Gtg and https://youtu.be/XkEY1Hrr7VY . The case is solid. The connector and memory card are protected by a small door that really needs to be clipped all the way so that it doesn't open. The FLY6 attaches to a connector similar to Garmin's (although not compatible). Plug in 1/8 turn and turn. That seems pretty solid to me. A wrist strap also makes it safe. It comes with a GoPro-type connector. The last criterion remains: price. The FLY6 isn't exactly cheap. The base model costs €390. For this amount, you already receive everything you need to hang the camera on the seat tube That said, I can't recommend enough the bundle (€10 more) which adds a silicone case and a mica pack to protect the lens. A 64Gb card is included but I can't tell you if it comes standard or only with the bundle. For a fastening under the saddle, the "saddle rail mount" is required (55 €). It is quite clear that a camera will not prevent an accident, but it could help calm the ardor of some people knowing that they are being recorded and possibly serve as evidence if events were to go further.
