Scientific studies have shown that chickens may, in fact, see colour better than humans. As a matter of interest, Dr. Joseph C. Corbo of Washington University School of Medicine. St. Louis was the study author researching what colours chickens may see and concluded that "the chicken retina greatly exceeds that seen in most other retinas and certainly that in most mammalian retinas." In short, chickens see red. Also, many backyard chicken keeper forums swear that hens are attracted to red.
