Do birds need vitamin supplements?
For birds, as with people, the key to good health is a nutritious, balanced diet. But for most birds, as with most people, the full range of vitamins and minerals needed for growth and health are not consumed regularly and therefore a multivitamin is needed. This is true of pigeons, chickens, parrots and most other caged birds and poultry.
In the wild, birds consume 15 to 20 different foods daily, giving them access to a wide range of different vitamins and minerals as are available in their natural environment. However, in the aviary, coop or loft, it is impossible to replicate the diet of a wild bird. We do not have access to all of the foodstuffs that a bird would naturally consume, and it is rarely possible to provide birds with the range necessary to constitute a balanced diet. Although many keepers supplement rations with appropriate natural foods, such as grasses, greens or grains, this is no replacement for the free access to a broad range of foodstuffs that comprises a wild diet.
Therefore, even when we are feeding birds with nutritionally-balanced pellets, or supplementing their seed with a range of suitable foodstuffs, it is still necessary to provide dietary supplements in the form of a good multivitamin.
Active ingredients include:
Vitamins: A, D3, E, K, B1, B2, B6, B12
Minerals: cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, iodide, selenium, molybdenum, zinc, sodium
Calcium: calcium pantothenate, calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, calcium gluconate
Bacteria and yeasts: lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus delbrueckii, lactobacillus rhamnosus, lactobacillus platarum, bifidobacterium bifidum, enterococcus aecium, aspergillus oryzae, candid pintolepesii
The convenient pink powder is so palatable that birds eagerly consume it.
How to use BVM Pink Powder
Place the Bird Vitamin Powder with probiotics in a clean dry container away from the elements. Place it to discourage contamination and scratching/raking. Breeding birds will even feed the powder to their hatchlings.
You can also mix the powder with wet feed. This also includes mixing with soft food with added wetting agent (seed oil etc)
We do not not recommend for use with dry seeds or pellet mixes.
As real-life conditions vary, monitor your birds carefully when first using BVM Pink Powder. For some birds, free access may not be the best option and a more controlled administration through feed will be necessary. The use of BVM with other dietary supplements and some fortified or complete feeds (pellets, mash or seed mixes with vitamins and minerals added) is not recommended, as too much of a nutrient can be as damaging as too little. Bird health and behavior is your best indication of whether BVM is working for you.
Use according to instructions. This product is not intended for human consumption.
Store below 30oC.

It feels good to know I'm giving my birds the probiotics that help their digestion, just as I use consume probiotic foods myself. With my ailing Miss Lovely out of action in a chook wheelchair, it has become especially important, and she eats up her pink oats for breakfast with gusto. Her feathers have become glossy black again, and, apart from her injured leg, she seems to be in very good health and getting stronger every day.

My baby chickens loved it, and I was able to nurse a wry neck to health due to a supposed vitamin deficiency.
