“First things first I love these tools and they were worth the wait. I have never been disappointed with this set. These tools go on whatever apparatus I ride on, including the medic. They are very versatile and can raise some questions from coworkers that don't know about the tools but they always prove worthy. I have a black grip kit on the set along with a handy supply of old papis tool lube.
Forcible entry doors are no match for these tools. When put up against two different types of forcible entry trainers, inward or outward was a complete breeze. The leverage extension when combining the tools and using the maul as a wedge is even better. I have been able to use other halligans with the maul to extend leverage as well.
In the field, these are the tools I want to have every time. If I know that there might be a scenario where I may have to force a door by myself, the set comes with me. They are easy to carry and keep married together. There's been a couple fires where the set has come in handy. Used it to pop a metal frame door on a 3rd story apartment with room and contents. On another fire the maul made easy work of clearing out glass block basement windows. On EMS runs, one good gap and your in the front door.
For most people the halligan seems short but it's perfect and I have never had any issues with it all. Most people love the fire maul. Having that combination of an axe and sledge gives you that versatility with one tool. If I know the officer is carrying a halligan, I split the tools and carry the maul in the waist belt of my scba. It fits nicely and it's right there when I need it. The maul with the shorter handle and heavier head is extremely well balanced and it feels like I have thors hammer in my hands.
All and all when these tools come out they mean business.”
