“I purchased these as part of a Rose Anvil colab. Wasn’t really sure what to expect to be honest, they were over $400 Canadian investment for me. I purchased the wider fit and a little larger than I normally wear. Out the box they fit comfortably, I sized well. I’m assuming the build quality will be there too. I had a good opportunity to test these out yesterday as was walking around all day shopping with my wife. These are not as comfortable as say a Made In NB sneaker but overall not bad. My feet got quite hot but it was a 30 degree day here in Canada. I’m not sure yet how I feel about this purchase as it’s too soon to tell. I’m flat footed so to be honest it’s hard to find a really comfortable shoe. My Grenson Fred boots are a lot more comfortable than these but again different type of shoe. I do like these but not a 5 star purchase for me. Having said that beautiful leather and I’m sure the construction is first class. The test for me will be how they hold up after say eight months.”
“My shoes are fine they aren't flawless though. To start with the good they look good fit well my shoe size hovers between a 9 or 9.5 uk depending on if I wear thicker socks/if I'm on a bulk or cut. So the fit is fine (went for a 9.5 normal width) And for the most part they look really well and smell nice they got that horween smell. Came to me very fast after being made but UK shipping is never long. However for the bad part and why it's a 3 stars mine weren't perfect. I understand that leather won't be flawless and might have some discolouring and maybe a few minor nicks here and there however one of my shoes has a horizontal dent in the back heel. Not too deep (maybe half an inch of depth) and about 3 or 2cms long. But to me this dent shouldn't be considered a 'leather flaw' it looks like someone made an accidental dent but they decided it's fine. For me it's slightly unacceptable that I was sent that shoe the dent is very noticeable and clearly there was very little quality control (Maybe because this was a Collab and they tried to get them out as fast as possible) This is a shame cos I was excited about them. The dent isn't worth my hassle to send them back or anything idk if I even could. But regardless I still want them but in my opinion this isn't a natural leather flaw and if it is, they should of used a different leather piece and save that one for a discounted pair. I also have another nick on my other shoes toe box. The nick looks like when u kick something by accident. You can see the leather fibers it isn't very deep at all but still this is another aspect I wouldnt consider a natural flaw it just looks like someone scrapped something on my toe box by accident. Therefore I give these guys a 3 star as I'm disappointed about their quality control of the shoes I think they just rushed it. Another reason for a 3 star is that when I bought a shoe from their competitors (Crown Northampton) it was absolutely flawless I didn't see anything wrong with the shoe whereas the SMUGS had lots more minor nicks but 2 big enough dents and nicks where I'm just disappointed at the quality control and I think it's unacceptable especially for the price so in the future I'm now not inclined to buy from them again as I could just buy from Crown Northampton and get a way better quality controlled shoe with 0 nicks or scratches. Like I said minor nicks and scratches are fine to me I like the look of aged used leather however the 2 marks and dents I mentioned here are unacceptable on a new pair in my opinion I wouldn't mind if I did these flaws but to see them on a new shoe is not good cos the dent at the back just looks so unnatural. Overall they are fine shoes just not perfect and I wont bother returning them as I want them. I'm not mad just disappointed.”
“I love these sneakers. The quality and craftsmanship is amazing. They are just a little big because I went with my sneaker size and probably should've went with my boot size. I wear a US size 10 in boots and should've went with a UK 9 instead of the UK 9.5. Still love the shoes and they'll be fine with thicker socks. I highly recommend these if you're looking for awesome shoes.”
